Conversations around Cultural Heritage is a podcast series that explores cultural heritage in an open, engaging and accessible way. Through conversations with experts, the podcast looks at why heritage matters today, especially for diverse communities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Yemen. Topics include major threats to heritage, preservation approaches and community participation, and the challenges for cultural diversity, inclusion and innovation in heritage education.

Hosted by Ana Carvalho (University of Évora, CIDEHUS), the podcast invites listeners to join a critical yet informal conversation about protecting the past while shaping a more inclusive future. New episodes are released every month.

EPISODE 2 – Dialogue as a tool of understanding (in)tangible heritage

The second episode of #TRANSITIONPodcast features Ana Carvalho in conversation with Dr. Ghiath Rammo from Sapienza University of Rome. Drawing on his personal and academic background as a Kurdish Syrian scholar, Rammo discusses his research on Yezidi religious traditions in Iraq, highlighting how oral traditions, shrine architecture, identity, memory, and community life are closely connected in both tangible and intangible heritage.

EPISODE 1 – The value of raising awareness about cultural diversity and inclusion 

The first episode of #TRANSITIONPodcast features Ana Carvalho in conversation with Professor Gianfilippo Terribili from Sapienza University of Rome, who has been researching the cultural heritage of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for more than twenty years. The episode explores the main threats facing the region’s heritage, from climate change and conflict to looting and urban expansion, while highlighting the importance of collaboration with local authorities and communities.
