On the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites or World Heritage Day, celebrated every year on April 18, the TRANSITION project will organise an online webinar on 17 April 2026, 10.30 – 11.30 am (CEST) dedicated to the role of cultural heritage in contexts affected by conflict, fragility and social change.
The initiative will bring together experts to reflect on the challenges of protecting and promoting heritage in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Yemen, with particular attention to the communities that keep this heritage alive.
This perspective lies at the heart of the TRANSITION project, which works to safeguard cultural heritage in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Yemen by raising awareness of minority diversity and strengthening the role of higher education in cultural preservation.
The event will also highlight the TRANSITION podcast series, “Conversations Around Cultural Heritage”, which explores cultural heritage in an open, engaging and accessible way. Through exchanges with experts, the podcast looks at why heritage matters today, especially for diverse communities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Yemen. It addresses issues such as threats to heritage, preservation approaches, community participation, and the challenges related to diversity, inclusion and innovation in heritage education.
The webinar will take place on Zoom, please register here.
